I think for non-programmable vector animations, OpenOffice Impress and Draw do a good job. Limsee2’s SMIL IDE seemed ok, but it crabs about QuickTime for Java which I can’t find anywhere on the net. OpenLaszlo sucks right now, but the paid version may work ok, I would not know. But, I know a bit of ActionScript and Compiling Flash in Aptana is easy. I had found Aptana with AFLAX(Asyncronous JavaScript and XML) to be as cool, but just not as “easy to write” as LZX. Just too many bug’s that I have reported that have yet to be solved. And it’s really bloated and takes over the flash plugin with quicktime and really messes up the localhost address. Yeah, I was all for OpenLaszlo a year ago, but the application server is still way too unstable. Have you tried OpenLaszlo? Essentially, you are doing exactly that - javascripting flash.

Scripting would be awesome(javascripting, that is, as I don’t know how to script in anytoher language.) That Rocks! Seen the Eye tutorial? No special masking or clipping steps.
Just animate and tweek parameters and the objects on that layer are effected. It’s awsome, But Synfig, you have a layer designed to handle that. Then to animate blur effect, it’s cool, if you know actionscript, or what.

AFLAX(That I use with Aptana) is cool, but I am not good enough to visualize code/numbers as graphics. SEPY uses MTASC, so does Eclipse and a few others. Osflash uses MTASC compiler for actionscript compiling. Isn’t that reasonable advice? Have you try that? But I won’t force you to use sofwares you don’t like. I’ve told u, use the libraries suggested by synfig, not the recent one. So, I rant only because of the crap I went through to get it to work with less than reasonable advise to a possible solution to get synfig to work. Blender already have tons of loyalist while synfig is still working there. Sorry if I seem harsh, I don’t mean to pee in anyone’s cheerioesīlender is 3D, synfig is 2D. So, let the *nix zealots enjoy synfig, for now, us unfortunate MS users will get by with things just happening to WORK. so, ppppppp, If my libraries are “broke” or if my machine is “broke”, at least I know most every other cool software for xp would WORK on my machine. And just one thing that is most notable to me about each of those apps…Uh, they WORK! And Gimp smashes Synfig, and Gimp uses gtk gkmm and it…uh…WORKS! never had a problem on either of my machines or the libraries that reside. Also, not open source, but free, MS Expressions 3 smashes synfig. I think inkscape smashes synfig(little svg/javascript), I think even OODraw smashes synfig. But, just to be able to export the plethora of different formats as sequences, allow for almost uncountable possiblities.
